RUSSIAN CONSTRUCTIVIST ROOTS

1997-1998

This volume is a catalog of a major exhibition (that occurred in 1979-1980) of 14 leading contemporary artists organized by The Art Gallery at the University of Maryland that traced the legacy of the historical Russian Constructivist movement of the 1920s and 1930s as it is evidenced in the work of artists from Moscow and St. Petersburg since the mid 1980s. This work includes artists' biographies, color reproductions of works by the artists and essays by the curator and several scholars of historical and contemporary constructivism accompanied the exhibition. The artists in the exhibition included Yuri Avvakumov, Leonid Borisov, Valeriy and Natasha Cherkashin, Maria Elkonina, Francisco Infante-Arana, Alyona Kirtsova, Oleg Kudryashov, Leonid Lamm, Vladimir Nemukhin, Boris Orlov, Valeriy Orlov, Eduard Shteinberg, and Vadim Voinov.
